About Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS)
The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) is the central tax authority of Nigeria responsible for assessing, collecting, and accounting for taxes and other revenues due to the Federal Government. It was formerly known as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) but was restructured and renamed under the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025 as part of major tax reforms aimed at improving efficiency and revenue generation in the country.
The NRS serves as the main institution for tax administration in Nigeria, focusing on improving compliance, reducing leakages, expanding the tax base, and strengthening digital tax systems. It also plays a key role in supporting national development through improved revenue collection and fiscal policy implementation.
