About Bank of Tanzania

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) is the central bank of the United Republic of Tanzania, established in 1966 under the Bank of Tanzania Act of 1965. It is fully owned by the government and is responsible for maintaining monetary stability, regulating the financial system, and ensuring a stable and sound economy.

It serves as the highest financial authority in Tanzania’s banking system, overseeing all commercial banks, microfinance institutions, credit bureaus, and other financial service providers. Its main role is not to serve individuals or give loans, but to control, regulate, and stabilize the entire financial ecosystem.
